How to connect to the Internet?

The Internet is a great place to have fun, to find a wealth of information, and it’s easily used to keep in touch with friends and family. There are lots of chatrooms, newsgroups and web sites to keep up with your favorite subjects, hobbies, music, sports, and much more. Millions of teenagers go online every day, and most are safe. In order to surf safely try to understand the risks and minimize them by following simple online safety rules.

  1. The internet works in the same way like using the telephone, except that instead of a telephone company you have an Internet Service Provider or I.S.P company.
  2. Then you connect your modem to the phone socket in your house by using a telephone line.
  3. Open the web browser e.g Internet Explorer and ask your parents to sign up their password and user name.

Easy isn't it! And that's just the start of a world of fun and learning!

 

Definitions

 

Modem : This is a device in your computer that makes it possible to send and get information or "data" over a telephone line.

 

Web browser : Allows you to view documents on the World Wide Web. For example Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer
