who won herself an MP3 player. Second place
went to Shaun Douglas who
won a cellular phone. Congratulations to them

Whitelock |
Hats
off to Sarah Whitelock of
Denison University in Ohio who is among the
recent winners of a Tryee Scholarship. Sarah
completed grades 11 and 12 of high school in
the United States where she was a national honour
roll student and a member of the Who's Who among
American High School students. The Tyree Scholarship
is awarded on the basis of academic performance,
extracurricular activities, and essay and counsellor
and teacher recommendations. |

Congratulations
to Levon Whyte of Ardenne High
School , as well as Nicholas Pennycooke
- they both gained no less than eight
distinctions in the recent CXC examinations.

the top student award for pre 4 th and 5 th
at the Maths Unlimited Super Summer School.
She was also commended for her outstanding performance
in Biology and Chemistry. |

Levy of Immaculate Conception High
School, with three distinctions and five credits
under her belt and Ashley O'Sullivan
, also of Immaculate, who gained two
distinctions and six credits.

Immaculate Conception High School deserves high
praises for a year of many successes. She gained
no less than nine distinctions in the CXC and
Cambridge examinations recently and was valedictorian
for the 2004 class. Danielle was also the high
school champion of the Vivian Rochester Memorial
Mathematics Competition.

Congratulations
are also in order for Julene Allen,
who has been awarded a certificate
of excellence at her school for three consecutive
years. Last year, she got the highest grade
in English Literature in the entire second form.

who
passed her GSAT and is now attending Immaculate
High, came first in her class and won the Principal's
award for high achievement in sports, academics
and exemplary behaviour. Keep it up, Asha-Kai!

Caught
a few Jamaica Observer photos of our Olympians at
the Athens Games recently. There were Angela
Chuck relaxing at the Olympic Village, and
Brigitte Foster cooling out with
a fellow hurdler. They deserve our congratulations
for making it to the Games. They seemed so at home,
we're lucky they came back.

a chess-playing swimmer. She won four gold medals
for chess and is Jamaica 's top female chess player
under 13. She has won two bronze medals for her school
and three golds and one silver for her swim club (Tornadoes).

it was Heidi-Anne Hanson showing
her winning smile in Digicel's press advertisements
this past summer. And another beautiful smile came
from Maureen Hemmings , owner and
pharmacist at Waltham Park Pharmacy, as she gave her
endorsement to the National Health Fund card.

| Niaomi Cowan
|
| Sixteen-year-old Naomi Cowan was crowned Miss Teen Jamaica 2004 on July 25, toppingthirteen other finalists to win the title. She will be traveling to Barbados the Miss Teen Caribbean competition on December 5. She entered the competition with the intention of gaining experience, meeting people, traveling to various places and getting involved with charities. This is the first time that Jamaica will be participating in the Caribbean pageant and we know that Naomi will do us proud. |

| Raecine Williams |
is
Miss JMTC 2004. Raecine is a fourth-former at
Campion College . She made her stage debut with
JMTC in 2001 as a member of the dance chorus
and by 2003 she had gained her first principal
role as Princess Delectina in Scheherazades'
Tale. This year she plays one of the six lead
roles and is also a principal dancer. Raecine
has been dancing for ten years and she is a
member of Tony Wilson's Dance Centre where she
helps teach very young pupils. She also has
a fine singing voice. Congratulations Raecine,
we look forward to watching you collect an Oscar
one of these days!
