Steps to do Research

 

 

Where do I search for information?


Start your research by making sure you understand the requirements, find out what your teacher wants you to do? Ask your teacher to explain. Restate the assignment in your own words and ask if you are correct.

 

Information Source

 

1: Book (non-fiction)
Advantage - Covering a subject completely or broadly.
Disadvantage - Information may be out of date, depending on the date of the book's publication.

 

2: Magazine

Advantage - Frequently used and widely accepted & information on the topic is specific

Disadvantage - Because of a limited amount of space, coverage is limited to only most current information.

 

3: Encyclopedia

Advantage - Large collection of information about many different subjects. Information is accurate, reliable and detailed

Disadvantage - Information may not be up-to-date.

 

4: Newspaper

Advantage - Contains up-to-date or recent information and the subject is covered very generally.
Disadvantage - Information on the subject is not detailed.

 

5: World Wide Web (Internet)

Advantage - Alot of information that is easily obtained.
Disadvantage - Information may not be accurate, up-to-date or reliable.
