How to use Search Engines
• Make sure you use a search engine that will give you the best results e.g.www.google.com (click here for a list)
• Narrow your research topic into keywords or phrases (A specific word or phrase will give you the best results). Make sure you search using two or more words or a phrase.
• Use correct spelling and avoid ALL CAPS
• To search for exact keywords or phrase put it within quotation marks. For example type: “man in space”
• Using words such as: AND, OR, NOT allows you to get better search results but make sure you type these words in between your keywords in ALL CAPS. For example: “man AND space”
• To Search: Type your keywords or phrase and click the search button.
• The search result is a list of websites found to contain the keyword or phrases, which you searched for.
• In the search results, make sure you read the text below the Underline words, because this will tell you some information about the websites and if it is a suitable source.
• Click on the underline words to connect to the website when you decide that the site might be useful.
