Dial-up is the least expensive connection to the internet, but it is also the least convenient because the speed of internet connection is the slowest compared to other connection types. To use dial-up access, your computer must have a modem. The modem allows your computer to connect to the internet using a phone line and is capable of transferring data that your computer will understand. Most Jamaican use dialup access.

 

 

 

 

Using Wireless Access persons connect to the internet using radio frequencies that travel through the air. No telephone lines or cable wiring is used. Wireless access allows many people to connect to the internet on their cellphone and laptops.

 

 


Digital subscriber line (DSL) sends data across the same wires as your telephone line. DSL Internet connection can send data over a pair of wires at the same time the wires are being used for a telephone call. This connection is more expensive and customers pay a fixed monthly fee. Using DSL you are always connected to the Internet.

 

Cable access use modems and connect to the internet over the same wiring that cable television uses. Cable modems can send data over a cable at the same time the cable while you are watching cable television. This connection is also expensive and customers pay a fixed monthly fee.
