"Knowing the different parts of your appliance makes it easier for us to assist you if you call in with a problem, since you will be able to tell us or describe to us what does not appear or feel right with the appliance."       Dr. Dwight Angus
DOs:

Brushing and flossing as instructed in the clinic is important for maintaining the health of the gums and the teeth, and in turn influences the progress of your treatment.

Wear removable appliances as directed, these include headgear, bite plane, acco, rubber bands etc.

A mouth guard should be worn when playing sports.

DON'Ts:

Do not eat HARD OR CRUNCHY FOODS which can damage the appliances by breaking off brackets and bending wires.

Do not eat STICKY FOODS which will get stuck on the appliances and become difficult to remove.

Do not use any implements other than those you were instructed to use for cleaning the appliances. The instruments that are allowed include: toothbrush, dental floss, water pick, floss threader and interproximal brushes.

Do not pull on or pick at the appliances.

Headgear should not be kept on during rough play.

ORTHODONTIC TRIVIA
You will get fewer cavities if you eat a bag of candy in one sitting and then brush your teeth than if you slowly eat the candy a piece at a time all day.
