Am I too old?

People of all ages may be treated with orthodontics. Adults up to age seventy five have been successfully treated at our office. The only obstacle to treatment is the health of the teeth and gums, which can be enhanced with orthodontic treatment.

Is my child too young?

We recommend that children come to our office for an evaluation at age 7. During the evaluation we will determine the need to and timing of treatment. There are a few cases that may be started earlier upon the recommendation of your dentist.

Will it hurt?

There is some discomfort involved with the wearing of braces. Initially it takes the gums and cheeks a few days to get used to having the braces on. We supply our patients with dental wax to cover areas of the braces that are bothersome.

After treatment will my teeth go too far back? (mash mouth)

A thorough analysis of each patient's records is performed to decide on a suitable treatment plan. The condition and position of the teeth, their impact upon the lips and cheeks is carefully considered and is also closely watched during the course of treatment in order to ensure the best functional and esthetic result.

How long will I be in braces?

How long an individual's treatment lasts depends on the severity of their dental problems, the condition of the gums and teeth, how much crowding or spacing is present and if there are any teeth missing.

At our office after doing an analysis of all the relevant factors the doctor will give you an estimated treatment time. Teeth move at a different rates and the actual time in braces can vary. Cooperation from the patient is also very important in keeping your treatment on schedule.

Will I need extractions?

Extractions are sometimes required to create space in people with crowded teeth or to reduce protrusion of the teeth. Extractions are only done following very careful analysis.

How will braces affect my social life?

As long as our patients follow our instructions about care for braces and proper oral hygiene they should not have a problem with their social life. We will give you a list of certain foods that are restricted and other instructions you will need to follow. But rest assured we have never had any complaints from our patients when it comes to kissing.

What is the cost?

There are various factors involved in determining the cost for each individual. During the consultation visit we will examine these factors and be able to tell you the cost for your treatment. We will also discuss our payment plans and the different ways that you can pay for your treatment.

Why do I have to wear retainers?

Your teeth keep moving throughout your lifetime. Wearing a retainer can prevent your teeth from becoming crowded or crooked again. That way, you'll have a great smile for the rest of your life.

Can I get regular dental cleaning with my braces on?

It is vital that you go to your general Dentist to have a cleaning and examination done every four to six months - even when you have braces on!
