Dr
Jeffrey William Meeks is a native Jamaican whose
early education at Mona Preparatory School led to a
free place scholarship at Jamaica College. While at
JC, Dr Meeks was a regular member of the student's
council and he was an avid participant in sport representing
the school on several sports teams.
During this time he was also a regular member of the
Jamaica National age group swimming teams which represented
Jamaica at the CCCAN games and many other events. At
that time he was also a member of the Flying Fish swim
club. Dr Meeks' high school days were also filled with
drama and poetry. |
Three wonderful years
at the University of the West Indies in the faculty of
Natural Sciences followed high school. Chemistry and
biochemistry where his majors but involvement in the
Real Mona Community Club and a growing repertoire of
'dub poetry' were major past time activities. During
this time, Dr Meeks also earned his private pilot's license
following work at Wings Jamaica Ltd. Dr Meeks was accepted
to McGill Faculty of Dentistry in Montreal, Canada in
1979 and graduated with the Doctor of Dental Surgery
degree in 1983. In 1982, he won the Table Clinic Award
for a project on periodontics. While at McGill Dr Meeks
was involved in the Caribbean Students Society and in
drama.
Following dental school, Dr Meeks was accepted to a postdoctoral
residency in orthodontics at Howard University where,
in 1985, he completed the program with the Departmental
Award for Achievement. From 1985 to 1987 Dr Meeks was
on staff at Howard University as an instructor in the
Department of Orthodontics with the responsibility of
teaching dental and orthodontic students. In addition
he was involved in part time private practice in the
state of Maryland.
Since 1987 Dr Meeks has been in private practice in Kingston,
Jamaica and since 1992 has also been in practice in Montego
Bay, Jamaica. Dr Meeks is the author of several scientific
articles which have been published in leading journals.
Dr Meeks is a former vice president of the Jamaica Dental
Association and is a foundation member of the Caribbean
Society of Orthodontics. In addition, he is a member
in good standing of the American Association of Orthodontics
and the World Federation of Orthodontics. In 2005 Dr.
Meeks was awarded the prestigious Diploma from the American
Board of Orthodontics in recognition of his achievements
in the profession. Outside of the office Dr. Meeks finds
time to be a member of the Board of Directors of Hillel
Academy and Air Jamaica Ltd
Dr Meeks enjoys scuba diving,water skiing, downhill skiing
, sailing and flying. His wife gave away his bicycle
so he no longer rides. Dr Meeks is married to Victoria
and they have two children; Joshua and Savannah. |
